Did you know that Postpartum has three phases? 6-12 hours after labor, the first 6 weeks after the baby is born and then 6 months after the baby has been born. Heck, when I finally started my period after I had Liam, I referred to my body as being “13 months Postpartum”. So really, Postpartum can last as long as you want it to.
No matter how you choose to look at it; “The Fourth Stage of Labor”, “The Fourth Trimester” or just postpartum in general, your body just spent 9 months growing another human being… It’s going to take sometime to bounce back!
Whether you gained 50lbs (that would be me) or 15lbs, your uterus has a placenta sized wound to heal. On top of healing your own body, you are also adjusting to less sleep, feeding another human being (either from your own body or with a bottle) and living life with a new addition that not only wants your attention but needs you to survive.

With all the being said, it’s okay if you don’t fit back into your “regular clothes” 2 weeks after giving birth. Enjoy taking things easy and wearing your favorite pair of sweats. It’s okay if you are rocking depends and mesh panties for a month and a half too. However…
While I am totally Team Stretchy Pants, I do think that us mothers need to prioritize ourselves (mentally, emotionally and physically) not only for ourselves but for our partner as well.
