Okay, Okay, I know…. Another person saying their Direct Sales Biz is the best…
But really, hear me out!
Typically the draw to direct sales are…
Stay at home mom’s
College students needing flexible work hours
A family (because Men AND Women can be in the industry, ) that just wants to increase their monthly income to buy a house, go on vacation or pay off debt.
I have looked into multiple MLM companies, and even been apart of a few others, so I know which business models rock and which ones do not.
Also…. Fun fact, I actually had never tried Beautycounter (almost two years ago) when my GF asked me to sign up with her.
Why?? Actually, because I didn’t know anyone that sold it! I knew a bunch of Paleo authors and bloggers that did, and SWORE by it. But between having a baby and buying a house, I just didn’t get around to it.
What sold me?! Obs the mission and the products but MOSTLY the fact that Beautycounter is EWG verified. I have been using EWG’s Skin Deep database to decide what food I’m going to eat, water I’m going to drink, products I’m going to use on my skin and even products I’m going to use in my home for almost 7 years. SCORE!
So you might be thinking, what is Beautycounter’s mission?
Getting Safer Products into the hands of Everyone.
Everyone.
Not just people who prefer more “natural” products,
Or the mom who cloth diapers,
Or that family that homeschools…
EVERYONE.
What else do I Love??
Beautycounter is a B-Corp, which is a very hard certification to get and maintain. A business is considered a B Corp when they are super transparent about their products, their production practices and more. (Think 501c3 non-profit status but for a company.) Beautycounter also donates $10 of all Band of Beauty Memberships and Consultant Fees to three trusted non profits.
Beautycounter also lobby’s in congress for safer laws to be passed, IN THEIR OWN INDUSTRY, that is UN.HEARD.OF. Did you know that their has not been a major law passed regulating the cosmetic industry since 1938…. There are only 30 ingredients that the USFDA has determined to be detrimental, toxic, causing cancer, hormone disruption etc.
YIKES!
In Canada the number of ingredients that their government has deemed toxic, is around 500. In Europe that number is around 1400…. A lot more than the USA.
Beautycounter actually upholds to the European standard… even though they don’t have to. Talk about integrity!
So now that you know a little more about Beautycounter, let’s get to some FAQs that will majorly set Beautycounter apart from other MLM/Direct Sales Business models, and why it will probably be the best fit for you!
Because trust me…. I was very anti MLM before I became a Beautycounter consultant.
Q: Do I have to place a minimum order every month to get paid?
A: NO…. No, you do not. (You might be thinking whatttttttt) Correct, you DO NOT have to spend your OWN MONEY to get paid every month.
This is really what drew me in on the business side, I had been trying “to sell essential oils” but the order I had to place each month to earn a paycheck was sometimes 3-4X the amount of the check…
There are months when I order ZERO products from Beautycounter and I still get paid!
Q: Do I have to buy a ton of products when I enroll?
A: No, you actually do not, however, I recommend it. The products offered at enrollment are DEEPLY discounted. You $95 enrollment fee comes with everything you need to launch your business, a website and a couple of our top selling products for you to enjoy. (I don’t know if you have ever tried to start a business before, but I have… and $95 is NOTHING compared to the investment needed to start your own business. I can’t even run my blog for $95!)
Q: Do I have to sell a minimum amount each month?
A: No, you do not! There is a very small minimum for every 6 months, which is why joining as a consultant for the discount is not worth it. However, if you are ready to earn some $$, this will not be an issue for you at all!
Q: Should I join for the discount?
A: As I mentioned above, no. However, joining as a Band of Beauty member is a great way to earn free products, free shipping and even money back!
Q: How much commission do you make?
A: All consultants, no matter their rank, are able to earn 25-35% each month, the more you sell the more you earn! I easily average 30-32% each month. I also earn 7-9% from the sales of those on my team. This is where people say, direct sales are terrible, the only people that earn are those that sign up first! This is not the case with Beautycounter the majority of my paycheck comes from my own sales. However, that 7-9% does add up, and it covers my time as a mentor, answering questions, attending socials for moral support, etc. (Yes, I will attend your socials with you until you get the hang of things!)
Q: Do I have to keep inventory?
A: NO, this was another seller for me. Beautycounter actually does not allow consultants to keep inventory. They want to avoid consultants possibly selling expired products to their clients. It is also much easier to keep track of who orders what, because we are able to view their orders online!.
Q: What about taxes… my husband is SO nervous about me joining because of taxes.
A: Beautycounter will issues you a 10-99, what does that mean? That means that you earning are reported to the IRS. That also means that taxes are not taken out of your paycheck. I’m not sure about you, but I would rather hold on to my money, then leave it in the hands of Uncle Sam. I recommend saving 25-35% of each check for taxes at the end of the year.
Q: Are you able to write business expenses off?
A: Yes, it will just depend if you and your household exceed the standard deduction amount, $12000. (Remember, I am not a tax expert, this is just from my experience.) When my husband and I rented, we never got past the standard deduction, no matter how many receipts we saved. However as homeowners, our mortgage interest exceeds the standard deduction, and allows us to be eligible to write things off like business expenses.
Q: Do you earn bonuses and trips?
A: Yes! When you first join, you have 90 days to earn up to $1000 in bonuses. If you promote 4 levels, you will be eligible to earn $2500 in four months and even eligible to double that to $5K with one additional promotion. (Don’t let me lose you, I can show you the numbers on paper.)
Every year Beautycounter holds leadership summits and trips that all consultants are eligible to earn! (It is very obtainable!)
Q: How many hours a week do you spend “working?”
A: I spend around 5, sometimes 7 if I am shooting content, or working on a blog post involving Beautycounter. I do all of my work from my phone, my clients are also able to order directly from my website and have their order shipped straight to them, which saves everyone time!
Q: How much training will I get?
A: Beautycounter has a TON of online training on what we call “Behind the Counter” it is available within a few minutes of joining!
Plus you will be me and our amazing uplines as resources! You will never feel alone!
Q: Do I have to host Socials? (aka house parties)
A: No, you do not have to! I host 1-2 socials per year. However this is not normal, most consultants make the majority of their sales via house parties. So if you love them, GREAT, if you don’t that’s okay!
Q: If you don’t host socials, how do you make sales??
A: Most of my sales come from One-on-ones, Drop offs, referrals and occasionally “Pass the Pouch.”
A One on One can be a phone call, a cup of coffee etc. Basically meeting with a client or potential client to answer their questions, allow them to test or small products or be color matched.
A Drop off, is when I leave a full sized product line (not samples) with a client or potential client for them to try for 3-4 days.
Referrals, well that is obvious, I have amazing clients who just LOVE to spread the word! If you are one of my top referring clients, then I am glad you have read this far because I think it might be time you join!
Pass the Pouch: It is the same concept as a social, where the host will earn HOST PERKS, however, we never meet at anyone’s house on a certain day, certain time. Instead, the post passes the pouch of products around, for her best girlfriends, or co-workers to try. When they order, she earns free and half off products!
Q: What if i’m not good at sales?
A: Great! People will love you, because we are not selling, we are educating.
Q: Okay… Okay.. I’ve made it this far, so how much money do you make??
A: Let’s just say, I make the same amount working 5-7 hours per week that I made when I was working 40 hours a week as a manager in specialty sales. YEAH, being a Beautycounter consultant allowed me to quit my day shop, and stay home as a wife and mother.
Q: What if I join, and regret my decision.
A: While this is not very common, but has happened due to things like sudden life changes, or just overall not a good fit, you have 60 days. 60 days, and you can return any products you have purchased for a refund, as well as your enrollment order. AND you get to keep any of your earning. So basically, you have nothing to lose!
Great, so how do I sign up! You can go to Beautycounter.com/rebekahshaw and click join. However, I highly recommend contacting me first! I would love to help guide you through the enrollment process and answer any other questions. You can email me at hello@therealrebekah.com or DM me on Instagram.
